ABOUT PYROGRAPHY
Making Art With Fire Pyrography is the art of burning images into woods. Many cultures have practiced woodburning in various forms, some using it decoratively on vessels, gourds, and furniture and some cultures' artists using wood just as a painter uses canvas. Many people in America are familiar with woodburners from the 1970s when woodburning was a popular hobby that children even learned in school. Now it is less known and practiced, but some artists are rediscovering the potentials of the medium and creating a virtual renaissance of woodburning. Its use as a fine art medium, rather than as a craft, is trend that will likely continue as people are exposed to the dramatic organic qualities inherent in woodburned art. |

Ordering Information: Most of my woodburnings are done on pine or basswood in varying dimensions. I engrave my signature on the back of the piece along with any dedication. The woodburning can have a natural bark edge or can be made to include a natural frame border with decorative burned design, or can be framed professionally. I welcome comissions on special subjects or from your photographs. I have much experience in making angels and religious icons, and I especially enjoy creating spiritual portraits in wood. The images on my website are samples of pyrographs I have made. Most of the images are repeatable, but I always welcome new subjects! Some subjects that make beautiful woodburnings (sometimes with color added):
